Student Concert Raises Over $19,000 for Charity

Third Annual Rock 4 Peace Concert Raises Funds for Third World First Charity

Santa Margarita Catholic High School students rocked for peace at a benefit
concert that raised more than $19,300 to support developing areas of the world.
The student-run concert featured two main bands with rotating singers--all
SMCHS students.

Hundreds of SM students packed the Moiso Pavilion for the November 14th event,
belting out the lyrics to pop and alternative tunes, even a few oldies including
Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.

Proceeds from the concert will go toward schools in Kenya though the Dignatas
Project and the Casa de Vida Orphanage in Nicaragua. The concert was put on by
Third World First, a student Club at SMCHS that raises awareness about issues
in developing nations such as education, poverty, and disease.

"Our biggest goal for this event was to raise global awareness. It's important
for students to know what's going on in the world," said Kian Mehrazarin,
co-president of the club. "It sets a good example for others about the
importance of sharing what we have and helping others."

More than 45 students put on the event doing everything from setup, gathering
donations from surrounding businesses, and working with school administrators
to ensure the show runs smoothly.
